OUR STORY
Creative souls
The history of Marifcain workshop dates back several generations, when our ancestors began perpetuating the ancestral art of handcrafted tile making called "zellige." Nestled in the heart of the historic city of Fes, our workshop has become a reference in preserving this traditional Moroccan technique.
The origins of zellige art date back to the medieval period, where it was used to embellish palaces, mosques, and public places. Zellige is a complex art that involves meticulously cutting and assembling small pieces of colored terracotta tiles to create geometric patterns and spectacular mosaics. This unique technique gives life to unique and timeless works of art.
Our workshop has established itself as a guardian of this tradition. From generation to generation, we have passed down the trade secrets, thus preserving the unique techniques and know-how that have made zellige art renowned. Each tile is handmade, each pattern carefully thought out, and each color carefully selected, giving rise to authentic and personalized pieces.
Over the years, Atelier Marifcain has managed to modernize while preserving traditional techniques. It is this harmonious combination of tradition and innovation that has allowed our workshop to thrive and stand out in the art of handcrafted tile industry.
Our clientele, consisting of art enthusiasts, architects, and designers from around the world, appreciates the timeless beauty of our creations. Each piece that leaves our workshop is the result of passionate and meticulous work. Whether it is restoring a historic building or designing a new contemporary artwork, we strive to meet the highest expectations of our clients.
